Breast augmentation is one of the most common aesthetic plastic surgery procedures performed in the United States. The procedure consists of placing a silicone shell filled with either saline/ salt water or a silicone gel (the FDA has mandated the patient must be 22 years old to receive the silicone filled breast implants). Breast augmentation is an effective procedure for enlarging breasts and creating a firmer more well-proportioned shape. The procedure takes about one or two hours and is performed under general anesthesia. Sutures are removed in one week, with patients usually returning to work within five to seven days. Each patient undergoes a thorough physical examination requiring an artist’s eye to determine the best technique/implant size to achieve the optimal and desired appearance. Your desired breast size will be discussed following the evaluation and upon reviewing photographs. This phase of the consultation is among the most critical in achieving satisfactory results.
