Breast Augmentation

If the size or shape of your breasts is preventing you from having the curvy, feminine physique you desire, then a breast augmentation may be the solution for you. Dr. Aaronson performs customized breast augmentations that place specifically chosen implants into carefully crafted pockets in your chest. Doing so increases your bust size, leaving you with fuller, more attractive breasts.

Who Can Benefit From Breast Augmentation?

Your Breast Augmentation

Consultation

Your consultation plays an important role in your breast augmentation process. Dr. Aaronson will evaluate your body type, discuss your desires, and determine your needs. It can be helpful to bring in pictures of your ideal breast look. Together, you and Dr. Aaronson will decide on an implant that best suits your needs and natural body shape. During this time, you will also provide your medical history to ensure that you are healthy enough and a good candidate for breast augmentation surgery.

Implant Options

Saline Implants - These implants are FDA approved for breast augmentation in women 18 years or older. Saline implants are comprised of a saltwater solution that fills a silicone shell. A wider variety of incision options are available, but these implants may be more prone to visible wrinkles and rippling in certain patients.

Silicone Implants - These implants are FDA approved for breast augmentation in women 22 years or older. Silicone implants are made from a cohesive, form-stable silicone gel. Many people feel that silicone better simulates the look and feel of natural breast tissue, but this type of implant can limit your incision options.

Techniques

Incision Options - The placement of your incisions may depend on your implant type and the desired visibility of your scarring. The best incision option will be determined during your consultation.

  • Inframammary - Along the lower breast crease
  • Periareolar - Around the border of the areola

Implant Placement - Where your implants are placed will affect the final resting position of your implants and the overall shape of your breasts.

  • Subglandular - The implants are placed under the glandular breast tissue but over the pectoral muscles. This limits implant distortion caused by muscle contraction.
  • Submuscular - The implants are placed below both the glandular tissue and the pectoral muscles. In the right patients, this can create the most natural-looking breast slope.

Combining Procedures

If you have any degree of sagging at the time of your breast augmentation, you may be a good candidate to combine a breast lift with your implant surgery. Breast lift surgery targets the weakened breast tissue that creates your drooping appearance. By repositioning and strengthening your breast tissues at the time of your augmentation, you will find that you can achieve more natural results that last longer. If left untreated, breast sagging can result in a double bubble deformity or bottoming out, which will require additional correction in the future.

Concerns

You will experience bruising and swelling following your surgery. A surgical bra will be worn for several weeks to help support your breasts throughout the recovery process. Most patients return to work within five to seven days of their procedure. You should be able to resume your regular exercise routine in four weeks, and most major swelling should subside within six weeks.
The extent of your scarring depends on the placement of your incisions. Additionally, your body’s natural healing process will play a role in scar formation and appearance. Discuss your concerns with Dr. Aaronson during your consultation if you are worried about scar formation. However, most scarring will fade over time.
The cost of your breast augmentation will vary depending on a number of factors. The type of implants, placement techniques, surgical fees, and anesthesia fees will affect the final cost of your procedure. While the cost can be an important factor when choosing a surgeon, it shouldn’t be the only factor. Choosing a qualified, board-certified surgeon is necessary for achieving natural, beautiful results.
There may be some initial postoperative discomfort that is the result of pressure or stretching caused by the implants. This can be controlled using a prescribed oral pain medication. For most patients, this initial pain subsides within several days of surgery.

Frequently Asked Questions

The ability to breastfeed with implants varies among women depending on the placement technique used. However, there is no certainty that a specific location will cause or prevent breastfeeding impairment. Discuss your concerns with Dr. Aaronson during your consultation.
There are currently no links between breast implants and breast cancer. Studies have proven that women with breast implants are at no greater risk of developing breast cancer than women without implants. Genetics and age are primary risk factors, and you should undergo routine checkups, with or without implants, at the discretion of your doctor.
Breast implants are designed to provide long-lasting changes to the breasts. Most women maintain beautiful results for at least 10 years.
